Addressing marine debris in the Gulf of Maine protects critical habitat for migratory shorebirds, fish, shellfish, and marine mammals; improves essential fish habitat for species such as Atlantic herring, lobster, crab, Atlantic cod, haddock, and winter flounder; and reduces risks of entrapment, entanglement, and ingestion for marine wildlife.
