The Gulf of Maine Council serves as a steward of the Gulf of Maine ecosystem, providing a forum for the exchange of knowledge and information to enhance and safeguard natural resources and the well-being of communities that depend on them. To help fulfill these goals, Council and Working Group members include representatives of US and Canadian state, provincial, and federal government agencies, as well as representatives from various nonprofit organizations and academic institutions that work closely with communities across the Gulf of Maine watershed.
